MAMARONECK, N.Y. For environmentally friendly conservationists and those looking to get a quick, clean car wash close to home, an eco-friendly car wash has opened in Mamaroneck, near Rye and Harrison on Boston Post Road.
Carriage Auto Boutique features a newer cleaning system that uses steam instead of water and soap to take dirt and grime off of a vehicle. Used almost like a power washer, the dirt comes right off the car, but the steam doesnt damage the paint or clear-coat protectant as a power washer might.
Theres no runoff, no soap, no contamination for the environment, owner Zvi Richman said. Even though the steam is powerful, its gentle and leaves no damage.
Richman said he had owned a car wash in Thornwood prior to the Carriage Auto Boutique, but wanted to do something different when he aimed to open in Mamaroneck. His idea of steam washing was generated from a business trip he made to Maryland.
I wanted to be different, more efficient and offer a much better service, he said. I saw steam car washing doing fabulous work with fabulous results, and I wanted to bring that here.
The steam is heated to more than 200 degrees, which helps sanitized as it washes. The boutique also uses a dry steam to clean the interior of a vehicle, including the air condition ventilation system, which often becomes clogged with dirt and lint from the car.
Its the only way to really get into the ventilation system, Richman said. And it does it well.
The hand service car wash also can clean the engine bay using the steam, and offers various auto detailing and waxing services. The waiting area of the boutique is set up with computers, wireless access and coffee for customers while they wait for their cars to be done.
Prices for washing start at $20 for compact cars and go up depending on the size of the vehicle. The Carriage Auto Boutique is at 813 E. Boston Post Road in Mamaroneck and is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The car wash closes at 4 p.m. on Sundays.
Somehow we bring out the shine, and it manages to stay cleaner for longer than a normal wash, Richman said.
