Larchmont Honors Futterman's For 25 Years Service

LARCHMONT, N.Y. – After being in business for 25 years, Minu and Prashant Shah of Futterman’s Stationary attribute their success to Larchmont locals and loyal customers.

“We have survived with community support,” said Minu Shah. “That’s the main thing.”

Mayor Anne McAndrews stopped by Futterman’s Wednesday morning with Mamaroneck Town Councilwoman Jaine Eney and Larchmont trustees Marlene Kolbert and Peter Fanelli to award the Shahs with a plaque commemorating their achievement.

“It’s an honor to survive in this economy, serve the Larchmont community and receive this award,” Minu said of the visit. “We are very happy.”

Futterman’s Stationary is at 2096 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, next to Larchmont Wine Lounge Vintage 1891. The store itself has been a part of the Larchmont community for 50 or 60 years, the Shahs said. They continue to pride themselves on serving the local community and providing personal service for customers.

“We have one school that we have all the supplies in one bag, so they come in, get all the supplies at once and spend less than 10 minutes shopping,” Minu said.

The Shahs also have an extensive selection of fine art materials, including acrylic and oil paints, as well as stretched canvases and various kinds of paper. More common items also can be found in the store, such as greeting and occasion cards, writing supplies, organizational folders, a fax and copy center and lottery tickets. It also carries high-end pens, costing upwards of $300. However, it offers a year-round 20 percent discount on these items, bringing the cost down for their customers.

“By 25 years you know everyone and 95 percent of my customers are the same people,” Minu said. “We enjoy watching the children grow up and go off to college.”
