Larchmont Retailer Encourages Clients To Push Beyond Their Comfort Zones

LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Maria Drattell prides herself on being a community-based shopper. And so, after having moved from Manhattan three years ago and not finding a women’s clothing store in the Westchester boutique scene reflecting her sense of style, she opened her own.

The mission of m. DRATTELL, which opened in February 2016 on Larchmont's Palmer Avenue, offers women beautifully made clothing that lasts a long time and can be built upon as the years go by. Drattell describes her store as "a women’s fashion boutique with an urbane sense of style."

"We encourage our clients to push a little bit beyond their comfort zones…at least to try it in the store. And more often than not, our customers are thrilled with the results."

The brands showcased in the small jewel-box of a store are "innovative, sometimes experimental and unquestionably timeless."

"Our mix will always reflect elegance and sophistication," she added. "The m.DRATTELL customer is a modern and confident woman who appreciates quality over quantity. I personally cannot be understood in terms of a single style and that is how I approach our selection."

Drattell affirms she's not a compulsive shopper, and so when she does shop she buys the best she can afford…she's never cared for disposable things. While some of the designers sold at m.DRATTELL are considered to be a bit higher end they’re certainly not a "designer price point," she said and they are classic enough to be kept for a long time. Customers can find a breadth of styles and price points, which in many cases can be merchandised together. “

Some of the brands we’ve had wonderful success with include German designer Hannes Roether, Italian design companies Hache, Faliero Sarti, Officine Creative shoes, Pip-Squeak Chapeau and Lola Hats from Brooklyn USA, and from NYC is Zero+Maria Cornejo, offering wonderful sophistication and elegance while being super easy to wear.

For the holidays, you'll find fun stocking stuffers like patterned socks, hair accessories, leather gloves and handbags. "What we sell is generally not found elsewhere in Westchester and we stock minimal pieces per style."

While Drattell is new to retail, she's had lots of experience on the wholesale end of fashion, both as an independent sales agent for emerging designers as well as launching two product lines in the U.S. for the luxury brand Valentino.

"Because of those different experiences and my own personal style, I think I offer a unique perspective to our customers," Drattell said.

"For me, everything in life has to have purpose and be of good quality with a distinct sense of style. I believe that what we wear is a reflection of who we are and to that end I offer beautifully made, easy to wear clothes.”

m.DRATTELL is at 1887 Palmer Ave., (914) 349-9100, www.mdrattell.com.
