Mamaroneck Residents Planning Financial Futures

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – In the state of the current economy it is hard to put money away for future use, but Gayle S. Lob made sure to let residents know the importance of financial planning at her free seminar Monday evening at the Mamaroneck Public Library.

“You have to have a strategy,” Lob said. “No two people in this room will have the same strategy.”

As a certified financial planner and a certified divorce specialist, Lob is able to provide people with financial information from many different aspects during her lecture “Financial Preparedness for Life’s Transitions.”

She is the president and CEO of her company, Lob Planning Group, and has offices in Purchase. She has appeared on numerous television programs and has been featured in print media as well. She lives in New Rochelle.

“I think it’s important for men and women to feel that they are in control of their financial life,” she said. “There are so many important decisions to make. Since so many people are driven by emotion, I recommend seeking professional help no matter how much the income level is.”

Lob’s general lecture covered some of the basics of financial planning, which include having cash reserves, financial protection, fixed investments and equity. Her first step as a financial planner, she said, is finding her clients’ net worth by subtracting their liabilities from their assets.

“I need to educate myself,” said Joan Shapiro of Mamaroneck, who came to the lecture for information gathering. “It’s not about budgeting; it’s about how to form a strategy for living a long life and enjoying it.”

Lob briefly touched on numerous topics such as financial planning, retirement, brokerage accounts, dividend stocks, annuities, loss of pensions and protecting assets in divorce situations. Many of the attendees of the lecture were curious about long-term care and life insurance policies, and were able to ask her questions.

“She was a great speaker, very clear, very thorough,” said Dan Butler of Bronxville, who came with his wife, Marie. The two are considering buying a house in the near future.

“It was very well run, she had a great personality and she was very nice,” he said.
