MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- With a simple snip of the bright red ribbon, Mamaroneck Self Storage officially opened its doors for business Wednesday, Oct. 28.

John Ravitz, Executive Vice President of the Business Council of Westchester, acted as MC for the Grand Opening as he did for both the “Ground-Breaking” and “Topping Out” ceremonies.

“The Business Council is proud to have members like the Murphy Brothers who represent the essence of what the Business Council of Westchester is all about,” said Ravitz, “Entrepreneurs who care deeply about their employees, are community minded, and continue to make their presence known throughout Westchester County.”

“It’s been a long time coming," said Sean Murphy, one of the builders and owner, “ Nearly six years to be exact, but we’re thankful to be standing here inside Mamaroneck Self Storage, and there are a lot of people to thank.”

And there were many thanks bestowed, as the grand opening was attended by many area elected officials, local business associates, friends and family members. Remarks were given by Kevin Plunkett, Deputy County Executive, Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Norman Rosenblum, and New York State Assemblyman Steven Otis. Mamaroneck Town Supervisor Nancy Seligson presented the Murphy Brothers with a proclamation on behalf of the Town in recognition of their service to the Sound Shore community.

Located at 426 Waverly Avenue, Mamaroneck Self Storage is the only storage facility of its kind between New Rochelle and Portchester. Sean and brother Chris Murphy worked with NYSERDA and Steven Winter Associates to construct the building to be 50 percent more energy efficient than standard building construction.

They credit the Westchester County IDA for providing a sales tax incentive that allowed them to incorporate even more energy-saving features that will save them close to $35,000 annually in electric bills.

They are also working with the Westchester Green Business Challenge to become the first Westchester Green Business-Certified self-storage facility in Westchester County.
