"There are many yoga studios offering many different things, but we are trying to keep yoga at its roots and continue to grow and learn as the ancient tradition grows and changes with new findings," said Owner Tobi Kundid, a local resident.

The mom of two said she chose to open her studio overlooking the harbor in January as a way to cater to the area's need. "Over two years ago, Yoga Sanctuary, a local yoga studio, had closed and the community was still mourning its loss," she explained. "I had been working with the owner to try to keep it going, but it just didn’t happen at that time. I found that I had no place to practice, to grow in a community of like-minded people, and so Tovami Yoga fills that void."

That means taking full advantage of her location. This summer, she's offering beach yoga at Harbor Island. Tovami Yoga has also partnered with the Westchester Parks Foundation and Whole Foods Market Westchester on a series of free classes, entitled “Sunset Yoga in the Parks.” Upcoming classes are scheduled for Wednesday, July 27 and Wednesday, August 10 at Rye Playland, and on Wednesday, September 14 at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla.

Kids classes are also on the docket this summer.

Kundid said her studio offers a diverse selection of classes for students looking for gentle and restorative options, along with more advanced practices. All classes are designed to extend beyond the physical aspects through an integrated mind-body-breath experience.

This fall, she's offering an eRYT200 hour teacher training featuring Christopher Tompkins who is writing his PhD on ancient scrolls that he has uncovered and is translating.  Said Kundid: "He will be offering some very new facts about the chakra system and the goddesses of ancient India."

Tovami Yoga is located at 112 Boston Post Road at the corner of Mamaroneck Avenue, To view the schedule or register, go to www.tovamiyoga.com/.
