Mamaroneck Mayor Norman Rosenblum, Westchester County Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler, Village of Mamaroneck board members and other local politicians attended the ribbon-cutting.
"It's a great service, another option that's available in the Village of Mamaroneck that makes us a destination for health and wellness, among other things," Rosenblum said. "Now you have an immediate place to go here without driving all over the place to a hospital where you might have to wait in an emergency room for hours."
Cake was served to celebrate the opening, and kids participated as doctors performed X-rays on teddy bear patients.
"It was cute; it was a lot of fun," said Dr. Jason Lupow, one of the five physicians from Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx who opened the facility.
The center will be good for people who may not have a primary care doctor, as well as for situations that may not require an emergency room visit but are urgent enough that waiting for a doctor's appointment isn't ideal, Lupow said. Additionally, there will always be a physician on site, versus some medical centers where only nurse practitioners or physician's assistants are available, he said.
"Being that we're all ER doctors, we have the capability to handle emergencies in a way that maybe a primary care doctor can't or isn't willing to handle outside of scheduled appointments."
MDxpress is located at 1030 W. Boston Post Road and is open seven days a week, including all holidays, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. It offers appointments for school, camp and sports physicals. Walk-ins will be welcome, while scheduled appointments will also be available.
All major insurance and Medicare will be accepted.
