The stores, owned by mother/daughter team Lynda and Jessye Piscitelli, are all about offering trendy, affordable items to clients with fun and interesting clothing and accessories -- the kinds of things a friend finds for you that fit just right.
Jessye was 14 when she started helping her mom with Indigo Chic's first store, in Cold Spring. That was 2006 when Lynda, having lived in Paris for many years, decided she wanted to bring a bit of Europe back "home." (The family lived in Dutchess County at the time; they now live in northern New Jersey.)
"She was young but she had an eye," said Lynda of her daughter's first foray into the fashion world. "Women would ask her thoughts on what to buy for their daughters and she was always right on."
Lynda says the group effort -- the two now own four stores (New City, which opened in 2008, Rye Brook, which opened in 2011, Hartsdale, open since 2008 and Cold Spring) -- has led to their success.
Sometimes the two are working side by side; other times they split locations though they talk all the time. Rye Brook has become their signature -- and busiest -- store so there is always an owner there.
Right now they are preparing to launch their online store through Shoptique, meaning, come June, customers will be able to buy Indigo Chic merchandise via the web.
Luckily, the two have the kind of relationship that survives the stresses of running a buisness. And though conversations can escalate due to the mother/daughter emotional dynamic, Lynda said they get over it ten minutes later.
The Piscitelli women, in fact, spend a lot of time together both personally and professionally. They often drive to work together and, said Lynda, spend their "off time" doing something fun.
Said Lynda: "If she's not with her boyfriend, she's hanging out with me."
