Owner Sven Sujica, who runs the store with his wife, Kris, said his goal is to "provide gifts that create harmony and stimulate consciousness with metaphysical tools that support the practice of meditation."

Items in the store are associated with positive energy and feng shui. Among the products offered are gemstone trees, crystals and tumbled stones in addition to Asian household items like Chinese tea sets, chopsticks, and saki sets. Also on the shelves: figurines like elephants, buddha statues, and deities along with metaphysical tools like singing bowls and energy clearing bells.

"We do our best to obtain our items through vendors that give artisans fair prices and support environmentally sustainable practices when possible," said Kris.

The Pelham resident said she and her husband have always loved Larchmont, and so, after years of living in Asia and Europe -- as well as a few years running a cafe in New Rochelle-- decided to open a feng shui store similar to what they used to find in their travels.

The two initially considered an online store but liked the positive energy in Larchmont.

Both hope folks will stop by and support their local business. "There are a lot of concerns of empty stores for rent and without local community support, small business owners can get discouraged to invest," said Sven.

"Hopefully, people will give more thought to that, skip the big malls and continue to support downtown Larchmont or any of their local towns."

The Purple Elephants Gift Shop is located at 2A East Ave.; (914) 426-1475.

A grand opening is set for Oct. 21 at 11 a.m.
