Dr. Jason Lupow, one of the five physicians from Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx who are opening the urgent care center, said, "Being that we're all ER doctors, we have the capability to handle emergencies in a way that maybe a primary care doctor can't or isn't willing to handle outside of scheduled appointments."
Lupow said the center will be good for people who may not have a primary care doctor, as well as for situations that may not require an emergency room visit but are urgent enough that waiting for a doctor's appointment isn't ideal, either. Additionally, there will always be a physician on site, versus some medical centers where only nurse practitioners or physician's assistants are available at all times, he said.
"We're all from Westchester, so we've been thinking about how to provide care to our home neighborhood," Dr. Lupow said.
Doctors and medical assistants will treat a variety of pediatric and adult non- life-and-limb-threatening injuries and illnesses, including cuts requiring stitches, flu, strep and sore throats, sprains, burns, headaches, stomach aches, asthma, allergic reactions and much more. The center will also have on-site digital x-ray and lab facilities.
The site will be open seven days a week, including all holidays, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. MDxpress will offer appointments for school, camp and sports physicals. Walk-ins will be welcome, while scheduled appointments will also be available.
All major insurance and Medicare will be accepted.
There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony the afternoon of Wednesday, March 6.
