Featuring the work of New York artist Paul Antonio Szabo, this free exhibit will be on display through Feb. 27 during regular library hours.
Szabo was raised in the Caribbean. Along with his family, he fled to Puerto Rico to flee the political upheaval of the Dominican Republic after the collapse of the Trujillo dictatorship. There, he developed in interest in art and studied at La Liga de Estudiantes de Arte de San Juan.
“The inspiration for my work is rooted in natural forms and organic shapes which are often purely fantastical,” said Szabo. “The finished works can be experienced as bird’s eye-view of landscapes or playful psychological explorations on moods and feelings.”
After turning 17, Szabo moved to Massachusetts to study art at the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth, and graduated in 1991. He continued his studies with the Cooper Union Continuing Education Program. In 1995, he moved to New York City, where he continues to work from his home studio. In 2005, he won an American Graphic Design Magazine award.
Sazabo’s mixed-media work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and juried exhibits throughout New England and the Midwest. Most recently, he was featured in Elle Decor's October 2014 issue.
