Out of the Wilderness: The Emergence of Eastchester, Tuckahoe, and Bronxville, NY 1664-2014,” is an ornately illustrated book depicting the history of the town, and is the only of its kind to specifically focus on Eastchester’s past.

The books have been available for purchase for months, at a pre-sale price of $35 per copy. That special deal will expire on July 15, when copies of the book will jump to $50 per copy.

“Out of the Wilderness” is a collaboration of volunteers that include local historians, lawyers, teachers and writers under the guidance of Bronxville Village Historian Eloise Morgan and Eastchester Town Historian Richard Forliano. It will be available later this year.

The coffee-table style book, featuring both color and black and white photos, will illustrate how Eastchester has developed and evolved since being founded in the 1600s,.

Events that will be covered in the book include the town’s 1665 Covenant that governed the first settlers, Eastchester’s role in the American Revolution and how the Civil War influenced the area. The school district, local railroads and local sports, will be highlighted, as will Eastchester’s first white settler: Anne Hutchinson.

The Eastchester 350 Committee has been busy all year, with various celebrations of the town and villages’ expansive history. Festivities kicked off in January, with a lecture at Concordia College featuring Jane Ziegelman.

The festivities throughout the year have included a historic parade, and a gala at Siwanoy Country Club, among other events.
