Hackensack police went to 30 Schaefer Place — on the fourth floor of a five-story building — at 10 a.m. Saturday.

They found Marcel Alcala bleeding from at least three abdominal stab wounds. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.

Robert J. Leonardis, 20, who lives there, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and weapons possession.

Those charges could change, depending on Alcala’s condition. He was still unconscious tonight following emergency surgery, a source with direct knowledge of the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Police allege Alcala was carrying a crowbar when he went to the apartment and confronted Leonardis in a dispute with him over Alcala’s wife.

But Alcala was disarmed and stabbed, the source said.

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Leonardis was out on $25,000 bail from a previous arrest for assault and weapons possession earlier this month in Wood-Ridge, records show.
