Raul G. Soto, 41, of Paterson was seized by St. Joseph's Hospital personnel after surveillance video recorded the theft, Capt. Lawrence W. Martin said Wednesday.

Soto "was accompanying an unidentified person to the hospital and while they were being admitted and interviewed stole the triage nurse's personal cellphone, valued at $900," Martin said.

Soto "attempted to return the stolen phone after it was discovered taken, [but] security intervened and detained him until police arrived," he said.

Soto was processed on theft charges and sent to the Passaic County Jail pending a detention hearing, the captain said.
