LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Hearts and Homes for Refugees Larchmont Mamaroneck , a sister organization to Hearts and Homes of Pelham, is holding a march and rally on Sunday, Feb. 12 to raise awareness of the refugee situation and to provide facts to fight fears people may have as a result of misinformation or too little information.

The march will start at 2 p.m. at Flint Park in Larchmont and end with a rally at the Kemper Memorial at the Mamaroneck High School.

Speakers include:

  • Catherine Parker, County Legislator
  • George Latimer, State Senator
  • Andrew Courtney, artist, teacher and activist for social change. He is also co-coordinator of the Hudson Valley "Call to Action: Syrian Refugees" and a Croton resident
  • Ahed Festuk, activist from Syria

"There is too much fear and not enough facts about refugees and the safety and thoroughness of the process," said Elaine Wanderer, communications director of Hearts and Homes for Refugees, Larchmont Mamaroneck of the reasoning behind the rally.

"Consider this: The U.S. has settled 3 million refugees since 1980 and those refugees are responsible for zero American deaths. The vetting is sound."

Hearts and Homes is a community and faith-based volunteer group working through official channels to welcome and settle refugees to Westchester. Go to www.heartsandhomesforrefugees.org for more information.
