Wardropper will discuss the museum’s growing art collection, the history of the museum going back to when it was Henry Clay Frick’s primary residence and plans that include a six-story addition to the Frick mansion.
Housed in the New York City mansion built by Henry Clay Frick (1849-1919), one of America's most successful industrialists, are masterpieces of Western painting, sculpture and decorative art, displayed in a serene and intimate setting. Each of the collection's 16 permanent galleries offers a unique presentation of artworks arranged for the most part without regard to period or national origin. Refreshments will be available beginning at 3:30 p.m. The presentation will take place in the Larchmont Village Center located directly behind the library. One of New York City’s few remaining Gilded Age mansions, The Frick provides a tranquil environment for visitors to experience masterpieces by artists such as Bellini, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Gainsborough, Goya, and Whistler. The museum opened in 1935 and has continued to acquire works of art since Frick’s death. Both the mansion and the works within it serve as a monument to one of America's greatest art collectors.
