Mamaroneck And Larchmont Offer Many Summer Camp Options

MAMARONECK, N.Y. ? Registration for summer camp in Mamaroneck is not far away, and there are a number of choices to keep kids busy and entertained while out of school, whether they enjoy sports, science, theater, or other activities.

Check out some of the camps in Mamaroneck and Larchmont in the summer of 2013:

Pre-School Camp

This camp will offer a variety of fun-filled activities, including program specialists, entertainers and events. The half-day camp will also include visits from local Fire, Police and Emergency Medical Services Departments. A snack will be provided for all campers who do not bring one. Registration is limited, and a counselor/camper ratio of 1 to 5 is planned. For ages 3 to 5. Camp site to be determined.

July 1 to Aug. 9; 9 a.m. to noon; $530 for Town of Mamaroneck residents, $615 for Rye Neck residents, $665 for non-residents.

Camp Monroe

Camp Monroe at the Sheldrake Environmental Center will also have a variety of programs, specialists, entertainers and events as well as visits from local Fire, Police and Emergency Medical Services. The extended hour will provide the opportunity for campers and counselors to have lunch and explore the natural environment. Registration is limited and a counselor/camper ratio of 1 to 5 is planned. For ages 4 to 6. 

July 1 to Aug. 9; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m; $630 for Town of Mamaroneck residents, $715 for Rye Neck residents, $765 for non-residents.

Playground Camp

This program at the Hommocks Ice Rink will offer campers a variety of programs and special activities, including swimming, arts & crafts, dance, sports and games. Playground Camp will also have special event days, including treasure hunts, western day and the end of camp carnival. Playground Camp offers optional out-of-camp trips, which may include locations such as the Maritime Aquarium, Sportime and more. For kids in grades 1 to 6.

July 1 to Aug. 9; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; $510 for Town of Mamaroneck residents, $665 for Rye Neck residents, $705 for non-residents. Discount for enrolling more than one child.

Summit Soccer Camp 

This camp is at the Hommocks Park Facility and is designed to teach the fundamentals of soccer with emphasis on both individual skills and team play while having fun. For ages 7 to 14. T-shirts will be provided.

Full-day camp: Aug. 12 to 16; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; $325.

Half-day camp: Session 1 ? Aug. 12 to 16 / Session 2 ? Aug. 19 to 23; 9 a.m. to noon; $210.

Westchester Sandbox Theatre Camp

This summer camp provides an exciting array of fun activities and a comprehensive performing arts curriculum. Campers will have a great time working daily with professional teaching artists on projects and activities designed to bolster creative expression, promote physical fitness and build confidence, all while honing their skills in creative writing, acting, singing and dance. For ages 7 to 14.

Session 1 ? July 8 to July 26; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; $900. Session 2 ? July 29 to Aug. 9; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; $600.

Destination Science Camp

Children who participate in this science camp at the Larchmont Temple can expect to do activities such as build roller coasters, design and name their own robots, and take part in a bridge-building “survival exercise.” The camp is organized so each week centers on a different theme. For kids in kindergarten through grade 6.

Four one-week sessions from July 29 to Aug. 23; full day, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; $364 per week; half day, 9 a.m. to noon; $264 per week. Discounts available for participating in multiple weeks, enrolling multiple children and registering before the end of February.
