Mamaroneck Camp Show 'Bittersweet' Ending To Summer

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Friends and family gathered Thursday morning in a packed auditorium at Mamaroneck High School for the annual Village of Mamaroneck Day Camp Show.

“I came last year for my older daughter. They do a fantastic job with rehearsals and everything,” said Carri Durinda, whose son and daughter were both participating in this year’s show. “It’s really cute.”

The show started out with an 18-minute video showcasing the entire summer’s worth of camp activities. Photos and videos from Camp Spirit Day, Family Fun Night, field trips and the camp’s biggest event, the Color Wars, had children and parents from the audience laughing each time a new picture showed up.

“I’m excited to see the show, but I am sad that camp is ending,” Camp Director Denise Olivet said. “It’s bittersweet.”

Following the video, each different age group in the camp got on stage to perform a dance to rock ‘n’ roll music favorites from other years. This year’s theme, “Village of Mamaroneck Day Camp Goes Back in Time,” featured performances of “Tutti Frutti,” “The Twist,” Crocodile Rock,” “Grease,” “Living in America,” and last year’s hit single, “Party Rock Anthem.”

“It’s a wonderful group of kids, a wonderful group of counselors and you all did a great job making camp a success this summer, and I hope you had fun,” Village Manager Richard Slingerland said to the audience.

For Superintendent of Recreation Rosanne Saracino, this was her 16th year as host of the annual Camp Show.
