Mamaroneck Community Groups Team Up For Family Day Monday

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- The Larchmont-Mamaroneck RADAR and Nautilus Diner are teaming up for Family Day Sept. 23.

Larchmont-Mamaroneck RADAR, a community coalition committed to reducing the use of alcohol, drugs and other harmful substances by youth, and Nautilus Diner have helped bring together more than 200 nonprofit and corporate partners, according to a press release from RADAR.

"The goal of Family Day is to encourage family engagement, especially around the dinner table, as a way to reduce risky behavior among children and teens," RADAR representatives said in the release.

From Sept. 21-23, the Nautilus Diner will use ChatMat paper placemats at all table settings, according to the release, which are geared to help families get the conversation going. Families also may take clean copies of the ChatMat with them to use at home.

“Here at the Nautilus, we believe that a family that dines together stays together," said Nautilus Owner Steve Efstathiou in the release. "We are happy to celebrate this family event as every day of the week is Family Day at the Nautilus."

Provided by RADAR, the placemats feature cartoon graphics and conversation starters for families.

“Studies show that strong family bonds and parental engagement give kids the strength and protection they need to stand up to peer pressure around drinking, smoking and drug abuse,” said Janet Buchbinder, coordinator of RADAR, in the release. “We’re grateful to the Nautilus Diner for supporting Family Day with the placemat conversation starters.”
