MAMARONECK, N.Y. The 65th annual Village of Mamaroneck Firemen's Carnival kicks off at 7 p.m. Wednesday for a week of family fun and Independence Day festivities.
The carnival will be held at its usual location at Harbor Island Park and runs daily from 7 p.m. until 10 to 10:30 p.m. It will have rides, games, a dunk tank, food and raffles, along with the annual Firemens Parade and Fireworks Spectacular. All the money raised during the carnival goes to the volunteer Fire Department, which disperses a lot of that money back into the community.
It helps raise money for Mamaroneck. We give over $10,000 a year, said Fire Chief Chris Szymanowski. It helps us give back to the community.
The Firemens Parade, a yearly tradition with the Mamaroneck Fire Department, will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, and the carnival will remain open until 11 p.m. The parade starts at the Mamaroneck Avenue School and ends at Harbor Island Park. More than 30 fire departments are expected to take part in the parade, as well as marching bands and town officials.
Its a tradition that has been carried on for years, Szymanowski said. Its nice for the departments to shine up the trucks and show them to everybody.
On the Fourth of July, the carnival will open at 3 p.m., and the annual Fireworks Spectacular will begin at dusk, about 9:15 p.m. The fireworks show is free, and the carnival will be open until 11 p.m. on the holiday.
Its nice that we are all together for nine long nights, Szymanowski said. Its a nice thing to share with the community.
