MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Molly Spillane's Pub is teaming up with Guinness Beer to kick off a month-long fundraiser Thursday for the Village of Mamaroneck Volunteer Fire Department.

The promotion will include a guest bartender night featuring the volunteer firefighters, after which customers can come in throughout the month and donate as they wish.

"It's for giving to where you're living," said Michael Hynes, owner of Molly Spillane's. "The thing people don't realize is how much effort is put in my Volunteer Fire Department. These firefighters do a lot - their work is always ongoing and it's them giving their own time to help others. I think that needs to be rewarded. They aren't appreciated enough."

"For a local business to come to us with an idea of how they can raise money for the local volunteer fire department is amazing in itself," said Mamaroneck Fire Chief Chris Szymanowski in a news release.  "From the moment Molly's opened in Mamaroneck, they were looking to help, and work with the Fire Department. It’s great for the Fire Department to know it has such a strong supporter in the local business community."

Guinness Beer is sponsoring the event and also partnering with the Leary Firefighters' Foundation, which provides funding and resources to fire departments across the country to ensure they are able to obtain the best available equipment, technology and training.

For the entire month of March, customers can purchase a fireman's helmet pin, supplied by Guinness Beer, at Molly Spillane’s for an open donation amount. There is no suggested price; customers are simply requested to donate what they want. There will also be a special line on each customer's bill providing them the option of a donation.

"Every dollar we raise goes directly to to the Fire Department," Hynes said.

Thursdays guest bartender night begins at 7 p.m. James McCaffrey, one of the stars of the television show "Rescue Me,"  is scheduled to attend, as is Mamaroneck Mayor Norman Rosenblum, members of the Board of Trustees and other invited dignitaries.

For 128 years, the all-volunteer Mamaroneck Fire Department has provided residents of the Village of Mamaroneck with fire protection. The five fire companies: Hook & Ladder Co., No.1, Mamaro Engine & Hose Co. No.1, Columbia Engine & Hose Co. No.2, Volunteers Engine & Hose Co. No.3, and Halstead Manor Engine & Hose Co. No.4, operate out of four fire stations with more than 200 volunteers.
