The contest deadline is Friday, Oct.31. Prize for the winner is $50.  Essay submissions can be returned by mail or hand delivery to either library and should be addressed to Susan Riley (Mamaroneck Public Library) or Laura Eckley (Larchmont Public Library) or can be sent to by email to (sriley@wlsmail.org or leckley@wlsmail.org). Essay writers should chose one of the following three topics to write a 250-word essay about the book "I Am Malala":

  • Malala is known for her passion for education and women's rights. How does her passion for education shape her life? Do you have a particular cause that you care about deeply?
  • Malala and her father have a unique and close relationship. Think of someone in your life who has been a mentor. How did that person inspire you?
  • Malala became an activist when she was very young. Discuss how you felt while reading about her experience. Where did Malala find her courage and inspiration?

The essay contest is sponsored by The League of Women Voters of Larchmont/Mamaroneck, and the contest winner will be presented with the award on "Local Live" in November.
