Mamaroneck Plans 'Family Fun Night' On Sunday

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – The Mamaroneck Village Recreation Commission is excited about hosting its 3rd annual Family Fun Night at Harbor Island Park on Sunday.

“It’s a really fun night,” said Rosanne Saracino, superintendant of recreation.

The event, which has drawn more than 500 people in the past, will feature a live band, kayak rides, beach volleyball and s’mores-making, among other activities. From 7 to 9 p.m., families and friends can enjoy the amenities of Harbor Island Park.

“It’s an opportunity to come out on a Sunday night, to look at the sunset, eat wonderful food and enjoy the harbor,” said Saracino.

Two kayak tours are scheduled, at 7:00 p.m. and 7:50 p.m.; they leave from Stephen E. Johnston Beach. There are 23 kayaks available, and spots are first-come, first-serve. According to Saracino, it is best to arrive as close to 7 p.m. as possible to sign up for the kayak tours.

Chef Johnson's food truck, as well as the spray ground, will both be open later than usual. Music will be provided by local 10-piece band Reunion, and fire pits will be set up along the beach so children and their parents can make s’mores.

“We can’t even load the skewers fast enough,” said Saracino. “The parents even like making them.”

Recreation Commission members will be volunteering their time for the event, as well as four or five other community members, and all have been looking forward to the event all summer, said Saracino.

“The fact is that it’s on a Sunday, there is music on the water, there is kayaking, it’s just fun,” said Saracino. “There’s a lot to say for that.”
