MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Music & Arts of Mamaroneck is remembering a Beatles legend at a Sunday concert while also raising money for a school devastated by Hurricane Sandy .

“We’re really big Beatles fans,” said Vito Calamito, manager of the Mamaroneck store. “When Hurricane Sandy hit, we started thinking and trying to come up with something more – a more meaningful event. We tried to find a school that could really use the help. We wound up locating Long Beach High School over in Long Island.”

Calamito said his store has remembered Lennon, who was assassinated on Dec. 8, 1980, for many years with an “open acoustic jam,” but this year comes with a twist.

The 2012 Mamaroneck Beatles Acoustic Dinner Jam will take place at Molly Spillane’s Restaurant and Bar from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is free, but five percent of all food and drink sales will go toward Long Beach High School.

“They were completely devastated by the hurricane because they’re right on the beach there and there was multiple feet of water in there,” said Calamito. “The Beatles always preached love and peace – really giving back and caring about humanity.”

Those who attend will receive one free raffle ticket, but can get more with a donation. All donation proceeds will also go directly to Long Beach High School.

The prizes include music gear, Beatles memorabilia, and gift baskets from local stores. Those who attend are asked to bring a musical instrument “for a post-dinner jam,” said spokesperson Rob Bitter.

In addition, Music & Arts will be donating five percent of all purchases from Dec. 9 to Dec. 15 to Hurricane Sandy relief.

The Frederick, Md.- based company has more than 100 stores in 22 states, Bitter said in an email to The Mamaroneck Daily Voice .
