MAMARONECK, N.Y. ? The Miró Quartet, one of America’s highest-profile chamber groups, will perform at the Emelin Theatre in Mamaroneck on Saturday, Feb. 16.

The Quartet will play three essential works of the string quartet repertoire: Beethoven’s Opus 95 String Quartet "Serioso," Schubert’s "Death and the Maiden" and "Ainsi la nuit" by the contemporary French composer Henri Dutilleux.

"We are thrilled to have the Miro Quartet on the stage of the Emelin prior to its premiere the following evening at Carnegie Hall," said Ashley Prymas, marketing director at the Emelin Theatre.

Described as “beautifully balancing cool refinement and intense expressivity” by The New York Times , the Miró sits at the top of the international chamber music scene. Founded in 1995 at the Oberlin Conservatory, the quartet met with immediate success, winning first prizes at the Coleman, Fischoff and Banff competitions as well as the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award.

"As part of the Emelin's 40th anniversary celebration, we decided to bring classical music back ? beginning with the Juilliard Ensemble performance this fall and now the award-winning Miro Quartet," Prymas said. "This exemplifies what the Emelin's mission is ? to bring world class art right here in Westchester county."

The Miró Quartet was also a recipient of the Cleveland Quartet Award and was the first ensemble ever to be awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant.

Regularly invited to perform at the world’s most celebrated concert halls, the Miró Quartet has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic’s Kammermusiksaal and Amersterdam’s Concertgebouw, among many others. This past summer, the Miró Quartet performed Dutilleux’s "Ainsi la nuit" at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, in a performance honoring the composer presented and hosted by the New York Philharmonic.

The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45, or $40 in advance, and $15 with student ID. The Emelin Theatre is located at 153 Library Lane in Mamaroneck.
