Now in its third year, the New Rochelle Street Fair and Music Festival will take place this Sunday Sep. 13th from 11am-5pm. Main St. will be blocked off between North Ave. and Centre Ave., with activities spilling on to side streets as well.

“This has been quite the undertaking,” says Linda Tarrant-Reid, the VP of New Rochelle Council on the Arts and a street fair committee member. “We have a great group of private citizens and city staff that have been meeting for the past 8 months and made this a lot of fun.”

There will be 2 stages for live entertainment, one located near the end of the promenade near Center Ave, and another located at Memorial Plaza, says Tarrant-Reid. Musicians will play roughly 30-45 minute sets, and feature a combination of local and regional artists. Activities such as Zumba, African dance, tango, and belly dancing will be on display as well.

In addition to the musical headliners, this year’s fair has over 100 vendors including crafters, non-profits, educational groups, businesses, and churches, and ‘Open Streets’ activity sections hosted by NR Future. Food trucks and local restaurants will also be serving up some of the area’s best food.

This year marks the first year the street fair has been run locally, by the City of New Rochelle/Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, New Rochelle Council on the Arts, Downtown BID, and community volunteers.

Support has been overwhelming, Tarant-Reid says. “The quality of vendors, food, and music is such a wide variety. People have had such a great experience the first two years and now really want to be a part of it.”

The event will be held rain or shine, and admission is free for all. Sponsors are Minuteman Press of New Rochelle, United Water, NoMa Social, the Radisson, PBA, Police Foundation, Funfuzion, Porshe of Larchmont, and media sponsors News 12, WFAS and WVOX.
