Olympic Medalist Esther Lofgren Talks About Rowing In Larchmont Visit

LARCHMONT, N. Y. -- U.S. Olympic rower Esther Lofgren is making special visits to the Larchmont and Mamaroneck area April 8 to explore the rowing theme of the book "The Boys in the Boat," the current One Book, One Community selection.

The reception for Lofgren, planned for 5:30 p.m. April 8, kicks off several April events surrounding "The Boys in the Boat." Hosted by the Friends of the Larchmont Public Library, the event takes place at the Larchmont Yacht Club, 1 Woodbine Ave.

Earlier in the day, Lofgren plans a visit to Mamaroneck High School to speak to students, library officials said.

Lofgren is a 10-time U.S. National Rowing Team member and 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist. A graduate of Harvard University, Lofgren rowed for Radcliffe Crew where she was a two-time All-American.

"The Boys in the Boat," by Daniel James Brown is the 2016 One Book, One Community selection for the Larchmont, Mamaroneck area. Its story focuses on the University of Washington's 1936 crew team and its quest for gold in the Olympics Hitler's Berlin.
