Apiary Prepared Foods Opens In Larchmont

LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Larchmont mom of three Teresa Hsiao admits she's a "foodie" -- but not a "snobbish one." Just someone who appreciates good, healthy options, especially for her kids, as well as thoughtfully prepared and locally sourced (whenever possible) options.

But between soccer, ballet, schoolwork and whatever other carpool run you're on, who has time?  And so, inspired by June & Ho in Rye, she, along with her chef-husband, Joerg Zehe, and fellow foodie/chef Kim Nee, have opened Apiary -- "your partner in fine meal solutions" in the space formerly occupied by Sweet Teez in Larchmont.

The mission, says Hsiao, a Mandarin teacher at The Unquowa School in Fairfield, Conn., is to offer premium quality freshly prepared food made at affordable prices. The cheery space, which officially opened Nov. 18, features everything from lobster rolls to panko chicken tenders to brisket sandwiches to an assortment of whole grains and green salads.

And for those who crave dessert, expect banana pudding (Nee used to work at Magnolia Bakery so knows the tricks of the trade), monkey bread, cookies, and brownies.

Because the owners are all about sourcing locally, you'll also find jams and ice cream from Brooklyn artisan producers such as Phin & Phebes jellies, organic maple syrup and farmstead cheese from Hudson Valley farms, gluten-free organic candies from New Jersey, and a soft pretzel honed in the Bronx.

And -- get this busy moms (and dads!): they offer curbside delivery meaning they "get" that parking can be difficult so they'll bring your order out to you.

The store is also offering kids and adult private cooking parties, catering and events as well as a host of goodies just in time for Thanksgiving. Order by Nov. 21 for a natural, free-range turkey seasoned and ready to be cooked, along with a host of sides including organic corn and black bean salad with baby kale, cranberry, sage and walnut stuffing and roasted butternut squash with herbs de Provence.

"My husband and his partner Kim cooked at terrific restaurants in New York," said Hsiao. "Like Ed’s Lobster Bar, Matsuri, Bolo and Maloney & Porcelli.  They know how to concoct lots of delicious food!"

Apiary (a name chosen to remind the three partners of their operating principle – to use locally sourced, natural ingredients to make wholesome meals for the community) is located at 157 Larchmont Ave., Larchmont, 914-834-3572 and is open from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Friday; 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
