The Find Grind: Blending, brewing and branding could be the mantra here where Owner Kusmanto Beham has created an In-house brand called Giacobean coffee. All is roasted in small batches, and tasted and tended with care. "Having a 'cafe minded' brand allows us to personalize coffee flavors even more," he said.
In addition to the coffee served in the cafe -- as well as the many baked goods -- there is a vibrant wholesale and web retail business with beans used at many area restaurants. Giacobean's cold brew, nitrogenated on tap at The Mill in Hastings, is also popular and used locally in a variety of cocktails. It is in the midst of being trademarked.
Most Popular Brew: The crowd favorite is the dark roast called veloce which showcases the artisan style of taking coffee dark without burning it. This features flavors of salted caramel with an applewood smoke. Beham calls it "a deep syrupy happy place where dark roasted pulls the savory side of sweet."
People also love that they can take Giacobean home.
