LARCHMONT, NY Registration for the Hounds on the Sound Dog Walk-a-thon and Festival, which is co-sponsored by the Larchmont-based animal organization Pet Rescue, will start July 4.
The Hounds on the Sound Dog Walk and Festival is one of the major fundraisers of the year for both Pet Rescue and the New Rochelle Humane Society, said Lynne Smith, a volunteer with Pet Rescue. Proceeds will be split between the two groups and go to help animals in need while a percentage will also benefit the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter.
Hounds on the Sound is an all-day event that takes place Sept. 30 at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle co-sponsored by Pet Rescue and the New Rochelle Humane Society. The festival will have food, music, vendors, childrens arts and crafts and of course, a meet-and-greet for dogs and cats up for adoption.
We see the dog walk as a red carpet type of day for rescue dogs, Smith said. Walkers sign up because they love their pets and cant wait to show them off by parading together around a beautiful waterfront park. They love the fact that there is an event that actually includes their four-legged family members.
Registered groups or individuals also can personalize an online donation page which can include stories and photos about their pets and explain why they are walking and raising money for Hounds on the Sound. Those who register before Aug. 4 will be entered into a drawing to win $25 in free raffle tickets to be used the day of the event.
People who register in advance will have time to get their family and friends involved either as team members or sponsors, Smith said.
Individuals, families and teams can register for Hound on the Sound by going to the website www.houndsonthesound.org between July 4 and Sept. 30.
The dog walk has been so successful, we now attract many, many families who didnt even adopt from us; and we love it, Smith said. As the two major adoption groups in the Sound Shore area, we are bringing our message about the joys of pet ownership to people throughout the entire region.
