Pumpkin Patch Opens In Mamaroneck

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – For the next month, there will be a pumpkin patch in the Town of Mamaroneck.

The St. Thomas Episcopal Church is hosting the Twelfth Annual Community Pumpkin Patch in the yard next to the church.

“We unloaded 6,428 pumpkins this year,” said the Rev. Lynn Werdal of St. Thomas Church. “The pumpkins are donated to us from the Navajo Indians reservation in New Mexico, through the Pumpkin Patch organization.”

Depending on how much money is made, Pumpkin Patch will get a percentage and St. Thomas and its partners will split the difference.

This year, St. Thomas is teaming up with St. John’s Church in Larchmont, Trinity/St. Paul in New Rochelle and All Saints Church in Harrison to help work the pumpkin patch throughout the month. St. Thomas and its partners are part of the nationwide project that includes more than 1,300 different organizations.

Each church is taking a week to help volunteer to work the patch. Volunteers are always welcome though.

“Some neighbors just come to volunteer, and sometimes we don’t even know their names,” Werdal said. “We have had the Boy Scouts and football teams come and help.”

The pumpkin patch, 168 W. Boston Post Road, is open from noon to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends and holidays. Prices vary depending on the size of the pumpkin.

All the proceeds go to a local charity each church has selected. St. Thomas will be donating its proceeds to the volunteer Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department.
