'Shark Tank' Teen Finalist To Study Business at Mercy College This Summer

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Teenager Carter Kostler from Virginia, a finalist on ABC-TV's "Shark Tank" show for entrepreneurs with business ideas, will take part in Mercy College’s Summer Leadership Academy in Business, which begins Sunday, June 15.

Kostler, 15, a 10th-grader from Virginia Beach, Va., is the founder of Define Bottle, a bottle that allows the user to infuse their water with any fruit of their choice.

“I am counting down the minutes to take part in Mercy’s Summer Institute in Business," Kostler said. "I know I am going to learn valuable lessons to help me grow my business. I’m most looking forward to learning more about marketing. I also think this is a great opportunity to meet other students and make relationships that can last a lifetime.”

Kostler will participate in the program designed to give students a head-start on their careers in accounting, finance, marketing and entrepreneurship. Students will also visit Fortune 500 companies, including Goldman Sachs, Viacom and Bloomberg.

Kostler’s product was created to fight childhood obesity and Type 2 diabetes.

"After learning about the statistics of how sugary drinks and soda impact today’s youth, I decided to do something about it," Kostler said.

Students accepted to Mercy’s Summer Leadership Academy in Business must also demonstrate excellence in leadership and public speaking. Sessions, taught by senior business leaders, include the following:

Kostler was also a national finalist in Michelle Obama’s Partnership for a Healthier America’s End Childhood Obesity Innovation Challenge.  He has also been featured in Forbes, Fortune, Entrepreneur, and local and national news publications.

The Summer Leadership Academy in Business will run June 15–19, June 29–July 3 and July 12–16.
