LARCHMONT, N.Y. --  Thanks to an effort of more than 50 volunteers and an army of good neighbors, 500 bags of clothes, 50 walkers, 60 pairs of crutches, six wheelchairs, 50 strollers and 150 boxes of goods will be shipped to Syrian refugees in Turkey.

But first, a loaded 26-foot truck will pick up the goods on Thursday, July 20 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church in Larchmont where more volunteers are expected to help load.

The clothing/household goods drive, which ended on Saturday, was held in partnership with Neighbors for Refugees, a Westchester volunteer organization, Greater NYC Families For Syria, NuDay Syria and Congregation Beth Elohim of Brooklyn.

"We are grateful for this bit of light after several long months of darkness and uncertainty with the travel ban.

"This was a massive effort and it couldn't have been done without the help of our community," said Holly Rosen Fink, Neighbors for Refugees board member.

"We are humbled by all the good will this collection has inspired and by the hundreds of donations that will help Syrian refugees. We had over 50 volunteers over the course of the drive who really went over and beyond to make sure everything was packed and ready to go by our deadline."

Volunteers are still needed for the Thursday event. Email Ruth Gyure at Gyurer@gmail.com.
