HARTSDALE, N.Y. -- Each season there are new takes on old classics, whether it's prints, patterns, styles or silhouettes. So explained Hartsdale resident Kendra Charisse Porter , an image consultant who also serves as a fashion advisor for Lord & Taylor in Stamford, Conn., Eastchester and New York City.In other words, the gaucho and culotte are here again. And yes, she said, this spring, there is a difference.
"The gaucho pant is a high waisted loosely tailored pant that falls to mid-calf, inspired by South American cowboys called gauchos," explained Porter. "Known originally as a split or bifurcated skirt, the culotte was developed during the Victorian Era for horseback riding. The culotte is a woman's pant tailored as a skirt that falls to the knee or mid-calf."
Vest are everywhere, too, from casual to formal attire. "Swap out your favorite go to blazer for this new accoutrement," she advised. "They are a great layering piece and you'll stay cool through summer. Pair it with a sleeve or go sleeveless you'll look fabulous either way."
This season, you'll also see modern takes on the classic romantic style. "Whether you want to be a bohemian beauty or look prairie chic, you can find the right pieces to update your wardrobe," said Porter. "Spring's florals are sophisticated and sassy. Lace speaks the language of love in breathtaking variations."
