Westchester Friends, Now Famous, Create New Netflix Show

No doubt, if you're a film or TV buff, you've got a kick out of watching shows that have been filmed in or near Westchester, aka "The Girl on the Train," the CBS show "Bull," "HBO's "Divorce," and more. Now, there's an edgy, adult animated Netflix show to add to your list.

Relive puberty from the safety of your sofa with "Big Mouth," a 10-episode Netflix adult animated comedy from real-life best friends (and Westchester natives) Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg.

"Big Mouth," which debuts Friday, Sept. 29, is the creation of Westchester natives Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg and is about, "the beautiful nightmare that is puberty and adolescence."

Kroll, who recently performed on Broadway in "Oh, Hello On Broadway," is an actor, comedian, writer, and producer best known for his role as Rodney Ruxin in the FX/FXX comedy series "The League," and for creating and starring in the Comedy Central series "Kroll Show."

Goldberg, on the other hand, has written for "Family Guy," as well as for "Seth MacFarlane's "Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy," an internet series produced by MRC and Fuzzy Door Productions.

Because the fictional show is based on the real-life angst of the two childhood friends -- they met at Solomon Schecter in White Plains before heading off to Rye Country Day and White Plains High School respectively -- there are a few notable county references, among them when Goldberg's character refers to himself as the "Prince of Westchester," the "King of the tristate area."

Another episode has the boys eating at Francesco's Restaurant in White Plains. Still another has them taking Metro North for an adventure in the City.

Kroll voices his fictional self -- he grew up in Rye while Goldberg is from White Plains -- with other famous folks playing other parts, among them John Mulaney, Jenny Slate, Jessi Klein, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, Jason Mantzoukas and Jordan Peele.

Kroll, who admits to being a bit of a big mouth in high school, said he hopes the show brings people a lot of laughs and hopefully a little catharsis in terms of what they were like and how far they've come.

"If teens are watching it, I hope it gives them some version of what they’re actually going through and inspires conversation between friends and family," he said.

"We need to be able to have the tools -- and the permission -- to discuss sex education."

Along with Kroll and Goldberg, Big Mouth is co-created by Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett. The series will consist of 10 episodes. Check out this teaser clip at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8U11H-3j3Ho.
