56-Year-Old Larchmont Mom Fights New Battles As Volunteer Firefighter

LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- If you had told Robin Nesdale two years ago that she'd be suiting up in a helmet, turnout pants and jackets, she never would have believed you.

But now, the Larchmont mom of one is a volunteer with the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department (TMFD) and loving every minute of it.

At 56, she believes she's the only woman of a certain age there and, to her knowledge the only woman her age to ever pass the FF1 tests.

And she did it all, she said, because her recent divorce left her lacking in the self-esteem department. She also wanted to give back to her community.

Now, after being profiled in an earlier Daily Voice story, she is being featured by CBS News. Her segment will air Friday, May 19 at 5 p.m.

The attention has been humbling but also inspiring. "It makes me want to try even harder at this," she said. (She still has three more tests to go.)

She's also quick to point out the team effort and hard work of her fellow colleagues who help her battle new challenges every day.
