Bell, Mamaroneck Native, Dies at 83

MAMARONECK, N.Y. - Irene P. Bell, a former resident of Mamaroneck, died Feb. 27 at Sunrise Senior Living Community in Stamford, Conn. She was 83.

Bell was born May 13, 1928 in Mamaroneck, one of four children of Pasquale and Ida Lerza. Raised and educated in Mamaroneck, she worked as an executive secretary for many years at General Foods in Harrison. She married James Bell on Aug. 20, 1966 in St. Vito's Church in Mamaroneck and they lived in Yonkers for three years before returning to her hometown.

She was a member of the Women's Club in Mamaroneck, an avid reader of the local newspaper and "Jeopardy" fan. Bell enjoyed traveling, first with close friends from Mamaroneck and coworkers, and then with her husband. She'd spend summers in Chatham in Cape Cod, Mass. along with her husband and daughter.

Bell also enjoyed following the New York Yankees, Notre Dame football and golf. In 2003, Bell became a member of Sunrise Senior Living Community in Stamford, where she forged new friendships.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home in Mamaroneck. The funeral mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Vito's Church in Mamaroneck, followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.
