Dorothy Wender, 86, Former Larchmont Bank Manager

LARCHMONT, N.Y. – Dorothy Wender, a longtime resident of Larchmont, died May 10. She was 86.

Wender was born in New York City on Aug. 23, 1925 to Samuel and Eva Neufeld. She married Norman Wender on Aug. 30, 1947 and they settled in Larchmont, where they raised their family and lived for more than 30 years.

She worked as a manager for East River Savings Bank at both the Larchmont and Scarsdale branches. Wender spent summers in Tamarac, Fla.

Wender retired to Florida soon after retiring from the bank, where she worked for 20 years. She returned to Westchester in 2009, moving to Tuckahoe. Wender loved knitting, bingo and playing mahjong. She also volunteered for Jewish Adoption and Foster Care Options and served as its Kings Point chapter president for 10 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Norman, and two sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (Charles) Bogdany, of Freehold, N.J. and Ione (John) Gaita, of Pleasantville; a son, Samuel (Mary) Wender, of Larchmont; six grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Wellwood Cemetery in Pinelawn, N.Y. The family will be observing Shiva following the service at the home of Ione and John Gaita from 4 to 7 p.m. George T. Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
