LARCHMONT, N.Y. Judith Dempsey, a longtime resident of Larchmont and retired nurse and professor, died on Oct. 22. She was 71.
Dempsey worked at St. Vincent Hospital in Harrison for 20 years before teaching at Mt. Vernon School of Nursing.
The daughter of Paul and Margaret Dempsey, she was born in New Rochelle on Jun. 15, 1940. Dempsey attended St. Augustine grammar school, Resurrection High School and St. Vincent School of Nursing in New York City.
She went on to earn a bachelor's degree from College of Mt. St. Vincent as well as two master's degrees and a doctorate in Nursing Education at the Teachers College at Columbia University. In 2001, she retired from teaching at Mt. Vernon School of Nursing.
Dempsey is survived by her friend Teresa Curry and two godchildren. Friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont. A funeral mass will take place on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church in Larchmont, with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
