MAMARONECK, N.Y. Herbert H. LaRoza, a lifelong resident of Mamaroneck, died April 1 at the age of 92.
LaRoza was a former business manager for the Rye Neck School District.
Born April 20, 1919 to the late William and Clara (Buckhout) LaRoza, he was also employed by County Trust. Locally, LaRoza was involved in several organizations including Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow), Associate of School Business Officials, Boy Scouts of America, Mamaroneck Auxiliary Police, Mamaroneck University Club and the American Legion Post 90.
LaRoza was a lifelong member of the Mamaroneck Methodist Church serving as treasurer, usher and a board of trustees member. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the 228th Field Infantry during World War II attaining the rank of fifth grade technician. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for valor as well as many other service-related medals.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma (Kehr) LaRoza, his children Barbara (Roland) Zerega, William (Brenda) LaRoza, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. LaRoza was predeceased by his son Herbert LaRoza, his brother William LaRoza and his sister Vivian Monfrini.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home in Mamaroneck. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Mamaroneck Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Westchester/Putnam Council, Boy Scouts of America or Mamaroneck EMS.
