LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Former Larchmont resident, Margaret Slaughter Wooters died Jan. 29 at The Village of Waveny Care Center in New Canaan, Conn.
She was born June 25, 1923 in Washington, D.C. to Laurence A. and Dorothy M. Slaughter. Wooters graduated from Georgetown Visitation in Washington in 1940 and from Manhattanville College in Purchase in 1944. She married Charles Reynold Wooters at the Church of the Ascension in Saranac Inn, N.Y.
A resident of Larchmont for 50 years, Wooters raised eight children there and was a parishioner of Church of St. Augustine. She was also a 40-year member of the Larchmont Yacht Club.
Most recently of Saranac Inn, she was parishioner of St. John the Wilderness in Lake Clea, N.Y. and an active volunteer for High Peaks Hospice in Saranac Lake, N.Y. Wooters also served on the board of directors for Hotel Harrington Company in Washington, a company founded by her grandfather Harrington Mills.
She is survived by her daughters Dorothy Ann Schneider of Penascola, Fla., Margaret Patricia Pedersen of Euclid, Ohio, Mary Susan (William) Campbell of Annapolis, Md. and Lucy Irene (John) McCarthy of Vienna, Va., her sons Charles Reynolds (Sheila McCarthy) Wooters of Silver Spring, Md., John Dukes (Marybeth Moran) Wooters of Morristown, N.J., Laurence Slaughter (Catherine Joyce) Wooters of New Canaan, William Harrington (Elizabeth Schaefer) Wooters of White Plains, 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Harrington Mills Slaughter.
The family will receive friends at the Church of St. Augustine in Larchmont at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. A funeral mass will immediately follow at 12 p.m. Interment will be private. Funeral arrangements are under Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville.
