Harewood, Retired Larchmont Nurse, Dies at 88

LARCHMONT, N.Y. - Isa Virginia Harewood, of Larchmont, died Dec. 28 at the age of 88. A funeral service will be held on Friday in New York City.

The youngest of seven children born to Uriah Emanuel and Lillian Summers, she was born on Aug. 8, 1923. Harewood attended Chatsworth Elementary School in Larchmont and graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1941. 

After graduating from Harlem Hospital School of Nursing in 1947, she began a 38-year career as a nurse. Harewood worked as a head nurse and then as supervisor of the operating room.

She married the late George Harewood and was an active member of Victory Tabernacle Seventh-Day Christian Church.

Surviving are her sister Adelaide Campbell, her daughter Doris (Garfield) Hawthorne, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A wake and viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at Victory Tabernacle Church in New York City, immediately followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. and interment at Kensico Cemetery.
