But the Harrison non-profit's latest rescue flight -- which saved dogs and puppies abandoned as residents fled flooding in Louisiana -- was rerouted to Philadephia, Pa.
Volunteers from Westchester County drove there to meet pilot Jason Rice and his cargo of adorable dogs and puppies.
"He flew Momma Melody and her pups up, and a darling lab mix named Larry that was his co-pilot," Pet Rescue's Caroline Walker said of Rice.
Walker said Melody had been found tied to a lawnmower with her pups roaming loose in a Louisiana backyard, left to die by a family that evacuated during severe flooding.
The animals are now awaiting adoption from Pet Rescue's facility on Harrison Avenue, according to Walker, a volunteer.
"Momma Melody and her pups are now safe in New York thanks to Pet Rescue and a heroic pilot named Jason who does freedom flights for Pet Rescue," Walker said. "Pet Rescue never leaves behind the mom, and brought this little family to safety where they will get vet care, cuddles and some training before being adopted out to loving homes."
