Larchmont Librarian Margaret Clifford Dies at 88

LARCHMONT, N.Y. - Margaret M. Clifford, former Village of Larchmont librarian, died on Oct. 11 after battling a long-term illness. She was 88.

Clifford was an accomplished artist and became one of the first female drafters for Gibbs and Cox, a marine engineering company.

Born in New York City to Mary and Philip Mulcahy on Oct. 16, 1922, she graduated from Cathedral High School in New York City and later attended the Franklin School of Art. Clifford's other jobs included teaching art in New York City Catholic schools, working as a bookkeeper as well as being an interior designer.

She married the late Honorable Joseph P. Clifford in 1949, with her sisters Mary Clare and Therese serving as bridesmaids. After receiving her degree from Iona College, Clifford became a librarian in Larchmont. There she raised her family and was active in St. Augustine Parish.

Clifford is survived by her sons Joe Clifford, Richard Clifford, Tom Clifford, Jim Clifford and Phil Clifford, her daughters Pam Bruschi, Kristin Clifford-Horton and Mary Brennan, 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Bobby.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont. The funeral mass is scheduled fro 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Augustine Church in Larchmony, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jansen Hospice Palliative Care , 69 Main Street, Tuckahoe, NY 10707.
