LARCHMONT, N.Y. - Former Larchmont resident Andrea Deane died Feb. 2, nine months after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. She was 55.
Deane was born July 14, 1956 in New York City to Joan Javitz Zeeman of Palm Beach, Fla. and the late Hans Zeeman. Known as "Ande," to friends and family, she grew up in Larchmont and attended Mamaroneck High School.
She graduated from Northfield Mt. Hermon in Gill, Mass., received her bachelor's from the University of Vermont and her master's degree from Wesleyan University. She studied cooking at the Cordon Bleu in Paris, France, apprenticed at The Four Seasons restaurant in New York City and was associate food editor at Weight Watchers Magazine.
A successful freelance food stylist, Deane's work was featured in several cookbooks as well as Bon Appetit, Cuisine and Parade magazines. In 1986, she moved to Haddam, Conn. to raise a family. Deane then worked as chef at the president's house at Wesleyan University, where she oversaw all official catering functions for three presidents. Since 1999, she focused on her fine art painting and had several exhibitions.
She is survived by her husband Eric, her children Kaeli and Jessup, her mother Joan and her siblings Jon, Eloise, Phoebe and Merrily.
A memorial service will be held at the Westport Inn in Westport, Conn. on Sunday at 12 p.m. Doolittle Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
