Breezy Point, a small neighborhood in Queens, is just one of the many neighborhoods ravaged by Hurrican Sandy in October.
Christina Carino-Forrest, the government and community events coordinator for LMC-TV, is the coordinator for the trip. She has been going to Breezy Point every Sunday on her own the past few weeks to help with the relief effort. She says it is too important to miss.
“I have two little kids. I have to leave my kids to go out there and I’m willing to do it because there are some things in life that you can’t change, but at least you can help,” she said.
Carino-Forrest said people really needed the help of their neighbors.
“Maybe people will have a house to go back to if it can get gutted, we can get it sheet rocked, and get them a table or something. Then maybe they would have some place to go,” she said.
Those interested in helping can meet the team outside the Westchester County Center at 9:15 a.m.
Participants are encouraged to wear clothing they do not mind getting dirty. They are also encouraged to bring items such as goggles, a change of clothes and lunch.
