Mamaroneck Manager Knows Cars, Computers

MAMARONECK, N.Y. — Valvoline Instant Oil Change Service Center Manager Raffaele Maffei defines success as more than just fixing cars — he says it’s also when staffers practice professionalism to ensure customer satisfaction.

“Anybody can change oil in a car — it’s the difference in service that keeps people coming back to Valvoline,” he said.

One way that Maffei and his team ensure that top-notch quality in every automobile is by using a technique called Super Pro 10, a step-by-step procedure to check everything from air filters to coolants.

“We operate kind of like general practitioners for your car,” he added.

Maffei has only been based at this Mamaroneck location since March, after training for the past year at locations in Port Chester, Yonkers and Mount Kisco. Before he went to Valvoline, Maffei worked as an insurance adjuster for Allstate Insurance Co. after managing an auto-body shop for six years. It was then that he learned the nuts and bolts of the several dozen cars his staff routinely services each day at Valvoline.

The garage, outside and lobby of the local store were being re-painted — proving that Maffei is someone who goes the extra mile in taking pride in his work.

The self-proclaimed perfectionist also outlined the proper places for all frequently used tools with black tape instead of having his workers rifle through messy tool boxes.

“I’m trying to make [Mamaroneck] the definition of what a corporate America service center should be,” said Maffei.

Been meaning to take your car in for an oil change? This Saturday, Aug. 20, every oil change will be given at 50 percent off at 1001 Mamaroneck Ave. in Mamaroneck.

“The economy is tough and this is our way of showing customers our appreciation,” he said.
