Mamaroneck Toy Box President Gives Back

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Every day, Steve Josephson opens aisles of new toys to kids at Steve's Toy Box in Mamaroneck. But the beeping gadgets and furry creatures aren't the only gifts he gives to the town.

Besides running day-to-day operations as president of the toy store on West Boston Post Road, Josephson said that it's important that he give back to the town.

"I have a good rapport with the kids, I have a good rapport with the grown-ups," said Josephson, who seeks out volunteer work on his own. "I'm in a fun business and I have an opportunity to do good for the community."

Steve's Toy Box sponsors baseball, soccer and basketball teams in Mamaroneck and Larchmont, runs drives for needy children during the holidays and offers face-painting for costumed kids during Halloween.

Serving as president of the Mamaroneck Chamber of Commerce for the last two years, Josephson has had a hand in planning various functions for the town, including the annual dinner dance and wine trail.

Though his term ends this year, he and the chamber are looking to plan a cruise around Manhattan for residents next year. For Halloween, he is also helping plan the "Halloween Spooktacular," where kids will be carving pumpkins, painting windows and walking in a costume parade.

The busiest time of the year for toys is near, but Josephson's reasoning behind volunteering for the town is simple. "The more you do for the community the better the community gets," he said.
