MAMARONECK, N.Y. The Village of Mamaroneck has announced this falls schedule for the curbside leaf-collection program.
Starting Nov. 1 residents must rake loose leaves to the curb and for safety reasons they cannot extend more than three feet into the street. Branches and brush must be cut four feet or shorter and tied with a strong string or twine and also placed on the curb, but away from the leaves, said the news release.
From now until Nov. 1 residents have four different options to choose from to dispose of their leaves.
The first option is placing the leaves in a biodegradable brown-paper bag placed at the curb on your scheduled day. The second option is to put the leaves in opened, clean garbage cans that are placed at the curb on your scheduled day.
The third option is to have your landscaper drop your yard-waste at the Department of Public Works transfer station between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Thursday or Friday. The fee is $52 for each four cubic yards of material. You can purchase vouchers from the Village Clerks Office from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The fourth option is to compost or leaf-cycle the leaves by mowing them into your lawn. This option adds nutrients to the lawn, by increasing the moisture content of the soil. For more information on leaf-cycling, go to the Love-me and Leave-em Leaf Composting Site.
If you have any questions call the Department of Public Works, at 914-777-7745 or the Village Managers Office at 914-777-7703.
