Mamaroneck Village Cleans Up Parks, Waterways

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Caroline Allen, Caroline Bunder, Matthew Adamo, Renee Allen and Mike Bunder gave their time Saturday to make the Earth a better place.

“It feels like were making a difference,” said Adamo.

The five joined forces to help beautify Harbor Island Park, one of the many locations selected for the Village of Mamaroneck’s fourth annual parks, rivers, creeks and harbor cleanup.

State and village officials, many volunteers and other residents kicked off the day with a tree-planting ceremony in honor of National Arbor Day. The event was a special one as it marked the 30th year of Mamaroneck's being a “Tree City.”

The community then pitched in to help make the village and its environs a cleaner and greener place to live.

Village Manager Richard Slingerland said that last year’s volunteers did such a great job of cleaning up that he wasn’t sure how much would need to be picked up this year.

“We want to make Mamaroneck a better place,” he said.

Refreshments were provided by McDonald’s, Dunkin Donuts, Boiano’s Bakery and Chocolations.

The event has seen a big turnout the past couple years, and the same was expected for Saturday’s gathering.
